Updated: Aug 6

We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Roberta King to the Shea Fashion Board of Directors! Roberta brings a strong commitment to creative youth development, mentorship, and community engagement. Her values and vision align seamlessly with Shea Fashion’s mission to empower young people through fashion, self-expression, and opportunity.

Roberta joins our board with a deep understanding of how nurturing spaces for creativity can shape confidence, build leadership, and inspire long-term change. Her insight will strengthen our work as we continue to serve students and families across Pawtucket.

About Roberta

Roberta King is a dedicated educator and guidance counselor at Slater Middle School. Throughout her career, she has supported students both in and outside of the classroom, always centering their growth, well-being, and future potential. What sets Roberta apart is her belief in the power of the arts to connect people and open new paths for young individuals to discover who they are and what they are capable of.

Her connection to Shea Fashion is not new. She has long admired the program and its founders and has been a consistent supporter of its work in the community.

What Drew You to Shea Fashion?

Roberta was moved by the way Shea Fashion brings people together and makes creativity feel accessible and meaningful. She remembers the early years of the Shea Fashion Show and saw firsthand how it quickly became more than just a showcase. It was a movement that inspired pride, collaboration, and mentorship. Last year, she had the opportunity to co-create a crocheted garment with a student from Tolman High School. That experience, blending guidance with artistry, confirmed just how impactful the program is for youth and adults alike.

Where Do You See Shea Fashion in Five Years?

Roberta envisions a thriving, self-sustaining creative hub that serves as a cornerstone for the community. She sees Shea Fashion as a space that welcomes all people and continues to be a platform for student voices, cultural celebration, and artistic growth. In her view, the organization has the potential to enrich the lives of young people while also building bridges across generations and neighborhoods.

Looking Ahead

With Roberta King on our Board of Directors, Shea Fashion gains not only a passionate advocate but a leader with the vision and heart to help guide our future. Her dedication to community and education will be instrumental as we build out new programs, expand our reach, and deepen our impact.
