On Thursday, February 27th, 2025 Shea Fashion’s Runway to Confidence models took their talents beyond the runway and into the heart of the community, performing at The Laurelmead Senior Living Center. What began as an unexpected invitation from residents who attended our 2024 annual showcase turned into a meaningful collaboration that bridged generations through fashion, self-expression, and confidence.

From Showcase to Senior Living

This special event stemmed from the initiative of Runway to Confidence students who work part-time at Laurelmead. Wanting to share the Shea Fashion experience with the residents, they invited them to last year’s annual showcase, Haus of Cards. Inspired by the creativity and confidence displayed on stage, the seniors extended an invitation of their own—asking our models to visit Laurel Mead and bring the show to them.

Led by Jayrick Spencer, former Runway to Confidence captain and now Assistant Coach, our student models reused looks from the 2024 showcase, turning Laurelmead’s event space into a vibrant fashion stage. The models walked with the same poise and presence that define Runway to Confidence, proving that self-expression through fashion is powerful at any age.

More Than a Fashion Show

Beyond the runway presentation, our students engaged in an intimate Q&A session with residents, sharing their experiences in the Runway to Confidence program and discussing its impact on their personal growth. From overcoming stage fright to embracing their individuality, the models spoke candidly about the lessons they’ve learned. Residents, in turn, shared their own fashion memories, sparking intergenerational dialogue that underscored the timeless power of style.

The Impact of Community Collaboration

This event was more than a performance; it was a testament to the connections that can be built when fashion meets community. Runway to Confidence is designed to equip students with poise, leadership, and self-assurance, and this opportunity allowed them to showcase these skills beyond the stage. For the Laurelmead residents, it was a chance to witness and celebrate the next generation of creative talent while reminiscing on their own fashion influences.

Looking Ahead

Shea Fashion remains committed to fostering meaningful collaborations that extend the reach of our programs beyond traditional spaces. As we prepare for our upcoming Sounds of Style showcase on Saturday, April 26th, 2025, at the Tolman High School Auditorium, we hope to continue engaging with the community in innovative ways.

A special thank you to the residents and staff at The Laurelmead Senior Living Center (www.laurelmead.com) for welcoming us with open arms. We look forward to future opportunities to connect, inspire, and celebrate confidence through fashion.
