Shea Fashion’s Open Studio Warming Party at Hope Artist Village

Co-Founders Phyllis McHale and Will Lopera with a group of Shea Fashion students

On November 13, 2024, Shea Fashion celebrated an exciting new chapter with our Open Studio Warming Party at the Hope Artist Village. The evening brought together Shea Fashion students, supporters, community partners, and volunteers to explore our new creative space and celebrate our journey.

The event featured guided tours showcasing our sewing stations, design boards, and highlights from our Runway to Confidence, StyleMakers, and ReFashioned programs. Guests immersed themselves in the history of Shea Fashion through a special memory table that displayed past show posters, programs, and videos dating back to 2010. This walk down memory lane offered a meaningful look at how far we’ve come since our beginnings as the Shea High School Fashion Show.

Generously catered by Johnson & Wales Catering, the evening was complemented by delicious refreshments that added to the festive atmosphere. Attendees also got a first look at our ReFashioned Totes, eco-friendly tote bags made from recycled vinyl posters, produced as part of our ReFashioned program. These totes were available for purchase, with proceeds supporting Shea Fashion’s initiatives.

Adding to the excitement, we officially launched our Sew Smart courses during the event. Designed for beginners and those needing a refresher on the basics, Sew Smart is a series of adult recreational classes aimed at building foundational sewing skills and confidence. The launch of this program marks another step toward expanding our educational offerings and making fashion skills accessible to more members of the community. Proceeds from Sew Smart go directly to our youth programs, ensuring they continue to be free of charge for our students.

The night was filled with conversations, laughter, and a shared excitement for what’s to come in our new space. We’re grateful for everyone who joined us and continue to support our mission. Keep an eye out for more events and opportunities, including our annual showcase in April 2025.
