Course Description

Designed for students who are comfortable with the basics of the sewing machine, this course focuses on the fundamentals of garment construction. Students will learn how to decipher commercial sewing patterns and construct a wearable garment from start to finish. This class bridges the gap between sewing simple straight lines and creating garments that fit. What You Will Learn: Pattern Literacy: How to read the back of the pattern envelope, understand sizing, and decode symbols (grainlines, notches, fold lines). Fabric Prep: Proper cutting techniques, layout, and understanding fabric grain. Construction Skills: Seam finishing, casing for elastic, and hemming. Assembly: Following step-by-step instructions to assemble a complete garment. Prerequisites: Completion of Sewing Essentials 1 OR equivalent experience. Students must already know how to thread a machine, wind a bobbin, and sew a consistent seam allowance without assistance.
